Apple ibook .........help!!?

I have an older ibook.... it will not start up... sometimes it will and then out of nowhere the screen goes black and it's dead. i noticed today that the light around the power cord will not light up when the computer is dead like this - could it be the power connection? I've checked the cord and it works fine ina nother computer. help!!
