What kind of sword would be best for me?

I need a sword that is of decent size, not too small, yet very light. katanas don't seem to work for me, nor do shortswords. they don't seem to fit comfortably, and shortswords seem to clunky. I like to hold the blade with my left hand, and grip either my left wrist or arm with my right, using it as extra force for my swings. However, I can't find a sword that comfortably fit in my hand when I do this. I don't know too much about swords or sword styles, I'm completely self-tought. Any advice as to what kind of sword I should use, or what I should do in general? Any additional useful information pertaining to the subject would be helpful. Also, I would like it if there wasn't any answers like 'get a life!' or 'wow that's stupid'. In fact I would be greatly enjoy it.
