What is appropriate to wear during a wedding appointment?

I own a full time DJ company based out of NJ. My question is i normally wear nice dark jeans, black shoes and a on down shirt when i sit with Brides during there initial consultation. I was talking to a few people who said that it might be more professional if i wore dress pants, and a dress shirt tucked in with a tie. I need some opinions on what i should start wearing. I don't want people to feel that i am a car salesman, so that's it why i always wore jeans and a on down. More of a trendy look.
