Are government employees arrogant, clueless about the economy, ignorant or self-centered?

It is amazing how many times I hear news stories about government employees threatening or going on strike. Don't they realize that there are thousands of people that would love those jobs. The latest is the BART strike in the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area. These jobs pay $60,000 or more per year and only require a high school diploma. Oh, and do not have to pay anything towards their pension plan. One lady who is a ticket person that sits behind a window made $119,000 last year by working overtime. I say fire all of these lazy a$$es and give their jobs to the Google & Yahoo employees who have been layoff. Besides from have people that can talk in complete sentences, these people will actually look for ways to improve the system. I am very frustrated with the attitudes of most government works!!!!

What kind of sword would be best for me?

I need a sword that is of decent size, not too small, yet very light. katanas don't seem to work for me, nor do shortswords. they don't seem to fit comfortably, and shortswords seem to clunky. We just moved into a new house in southern Maine and discovered a mint set of 1986 encyclopedia brittanicas packed in boxes in the basement, and it also includes 2 subsets of books. All mint condition. We were surprised to find out no one seems to want them, including the local library and public high school. This is mostly due to the being outdated. I have read Frankenstein of course. I liked it. I have also read some of her short stories. One thing that young people might like about her is that she was only about 18 when she wrote it. I have read many books by ens and Hardy and I would say that Mary Shelley is better than both. Hardy is depressing and he talks too much about the fields. If a character gets to be inconvinient, he just kills them off. ens writes two dimensional characters and is seriously cynical. He grew up poor an seems to have been jaded. Now concerning Austen she is one of the greatest literary minds of the 19th century. Accidentally tipped my minifridge upside down?

I bought a minifridge but as I was checking out I accidentally tipped it upside down. It was only upside down for a few seconds and then was righted. I was hoping to leave it in the box while I travel with it, so I don't want to have to take it out, plug it in, see if it works, defrost it, and then pack it back up. The side of the box says "Do not lay down." I have no idea how sensitive these things are...will it be okay, having just been tipped for a couple of seconds upside down? Or do I need to do exchange it?

How long can a dog with lupus survive?

My akita is auto immune but doesn't have lupus. She was diagnosed 4 years ago and is now 7. I did however discuss with my vet a type of steroid that a dog could be on long term that doesn't have the same side effects as prednisone. The dog would need to be weened off the pred first. The downfall to the steroid was that it wasn't an immediate releif like the pred and it would need to build up in the system (i'm sorry i cant remeber the name of it). My thoughts would be to bring it up with your vet and see if it's a possibilty after your dog is stable on the pred. I also do not vaccinate. Not even rabies. It would over stimulate her immune system and kill her. Look into yucca root as well. It works as a natural steroid without the side effects, it's not as potent but could be used for comfort in the end. Best of luck.

I have two cats. Only one crawls out my window that I cannot close. He climbs off the top of the roof to the ground everyday. He usually climbs back up every evening. Smoke alarm won't stop beeping?

We just recently installed a new light fixture in our house, and we had to turn off a breaker to do it... unfortunately, it was the same breaker as the smoke alarms, and now they're all going haywire. I have two Kidde KN-COSM-IB combo smoke/carbon monoxide detectors that are three years old. At first they were just beeping every minute or so, so I tried to reset them by turning the power back off and taking out the batteries for a few minutes, but now they're beeping and saying "low battery." So I replaced all the batteries. Still beeping every 20 seconds telling me the batteries are low. Any idea how to get this to stop? Otherwise I'm going to disconnect them and remove the batteries so my ears stop ringing!

New York Giants + free agency?

Why do you guys think that the Giants never really try to pursue any of the areas that they need in free agency? We got Antrel Rolle, which is good, but we could definitely use a good linebacker, another good defensive end, and/or a good, reliable wide receiver. So, how come the giants never go after anyone in free agency? I would've liked to have seen maybe Julius Peppers, or Anquan Boldin go to the Giants. I'd actually really like to see either Karlos Dansby, Derrick Burgess, Elvis Dumervil, Scott Fujita, Joey Porter, Barrett Ruud, or Jeremiah Trotter head the Giants' way. I just think that every year they need some good, solid players at multiple different positions and they try to fill those vacancies by developing back-up players and developing rookies from the draft. I think for once they should try to fill at least 2 or 3 positions with experienced, good, reliable players from the Free Agency market. They already got Rolle, so maybe they should try to pursue one of the LB's I listed earlier because they already have a decent receiver core and decent defensive ends so the secondary and linebackers are where they really need to improve. My ideal pick up at linebacker for the Giants would be either: Dansby, Dumervil, or Trotter. Each one can make plays, jump start the defense they're on, and make good hard tackles. And that's one thing the Giants lacked last year was their tackling ability.

I had to put my kitten to sleep yesterday because he got into some advil and the vet said there wasn't much of a reason to try he was to far gone. My grandson is autistic and is 7 years old as well, The signs that you are stating could mean autism. I have had lots of training now in this field. Does he make eye contact with people, autistic children don't like to look at others. They go on tangents frequently and have what the call ticks (spinning things is a great sign but can have other things they like to do as well), How is his Speech? Autistic children are very late talkers unless it is a mild case. There are different levels my grandson is severely autistic. He often gets out of the house and is a runner, one time he got out of the house at 3:00 am and his mother was asleep and the police brought him home. Now we have to bolt all doors from the outside to keep him in and windows have to be nailed shut. There is a help out there. A program where skilled teachers in autism come to your house and tooter them and with special schools they start to become more normal. My grandson has made a remarkable turn around.Never feel that you are alone. My husband came home from work with stomach pain. He said that he ate meat and broccoli for lunch then had a bowel movement and then right afterwards a throbbing, bloated pain in his abdomen started. Its not in one specific area, but all over his lower abdomen. They fed him Rolaids at work, and the pain lessened (still there tho). I recently DLed Windows XP home edition from a friend's CD and now my sound isn't working. My speakers are in the right places, and the blue light comes on, I know they aren't broken because I can hear the little noise when I plug them back in. And when I try to play a song on WMP, it says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. I'm home schooled and I have to be on the pc all day. But the lap top gets really hot at the bottom and it's frustrating when I have to be changing positions so many times. I like to be comfortable so sitting at a table isn't an option. I dont want a hard book cover on my lap either so im currently trying, a mouse pad in between the hot pc and my leg. I've wanted to be a prosecutor for quite a while now. I'm 17 and about to graduate high school. I'm getting ready to start community college in a few months, and then i want to transfer to a UC. Actually God has proven his existence to some people. People who already believe without seeing...many of them God has revealed to in some manner. Why don't you try reading the Bible? Besides, God gave us the choice to believe in him because he wants us to choose him, not force us. If he showed himself, we would automatically believe. But it wouldn't be the same as having faith and believing without seeing. I wouldn't be to skeptical....the consequences aren't very good.

a and c. I know lots of gay and people. I'm no expert, but I think marriage involves religiosity and civil unions involve legality. I think civil will come before marriage. I think we ourselves define what marriage is or isn't. We can always change the rules. The bible and koran were written by people using their own cultural values at the time. If we were to survey families today, I think we would see a lot of single head of household, non-married couples , heteroual unions and gay and unions. I think the rules should reflect what society is actually doing and not what some 2000 year old book supposedly promotes (depending how each individual interprets it). I am heteroual by the way but I believe in live and let live.

I would have to say email. Email requires only about 20 minutes of electricity when you type and send or check then you can shut off your computer. But post office mailing requires someone to drive over in a car emitting fumes into the air and then going back to the post office, then deliver it and probably 100 others. All that driving is bad for the environment. Also operating the equipment required to sort out the mail uses quite a bit of electricity. Then you have to consider the mail being delivered across the globe by plane or ship then being driven around. That harms the environment as well.

The basis of conservatism should not be confused with the representation we have had. It seems that both parties try to make exceptions to get more votes from the other, and the republican party has seemed to lose it's foundation, and what they are really supposed to represent. I don't mean Republicans in general, I just mean alot of the people we have had, and have in office. We need to get back to our foundations, and the democratic party is not making themselves very appealing either. Weird Ankle Pains. Any Ideas?

im in 10th grade now. & when i was in 6th grade my basketball team was having a scrimmage. & obv. as you may know at the beginning of the game you jump up fr the ball, well i was one of those people. i jumped up, & when i came back down i landed on the side of my ankle. It kind of rolled i guess, & i walked it off. Then the next morning i woke up & i couldnt even walk on it. it was really swollen & everything. I went to the ER [& i dont remember but my mom said they took xrays of the bone & said nothing was really wrong or something] & told me to use crutches for 6 weeks. i ended up gettng off them the next day cause i wanted to be in the championship game. and i did. now 4 years later; my ankle gets really swollen every other week. & it hurts to wak on it. & when i twirl my ankle, a really sharp pain comes. & and if i roll it, it hurts more then what my left does. Any ideas what it may be?

Trying drugs, and using drugs are two very different things. When people generally hear that someone did or does drugs, they think that everyday user. Despite what I've heard from many frequent users, it does change their behavior no matter how hard they try, and I've never seen a case for the better. I don't judge someone if they've tried using drugs, but someone who goes into public stoned deserves that scrutiny in my mind. Don't get me wrong, there are many people who do drugs in college and move on to do much better things, but many don't, and that's all anyone ever hears about.

Slave to the skin no longer?

I have a nickel allergy too and I also have the infected bumps along with reddish purple spots left behind after the bumps are gone,(They eventually go away after 6 months or so). I have dermatitis and the list goes on and on. Nothing seems to help. I have been to dermatologists and still no results, so I have learned to live with it all and guess what my Ex didn't have a problem with it and neither does my B/F. As I get older it gets worse, so just hang in there and live life to its fullest. By the way, I use lots of vitamin E oil Capsules (I prick a hole in them and use small amounts on the areas). a few years back i fell behind with my rent,a re-payment plan was agreed and it was adhered to but despite this the housing ociation still took the case to court.i went to court to hear what would happen and i thought it was thrown out but now the problem is i have them chasing me for the court costs.i had a doorstep visit from a solicitor company today and explained the situation,he told me if the case had been thrown out then they have no right to claim court costs from me which is what i thought so now i am waiting to see if they have a court order for the money or not.i have tried writing to the housing ociation but they never respond,i went to citizens advice but they had no success either.can anyone help me out with what i should do next.I live in Scotland by the way.
